ABOUT THAT'S FLUTE

That's Flute came about from frustration at not being able to find a beginner flute book that really worked for the average learning pace of students. I found that the most popular books out there  moved too quickly and added in hard rhythmic concepts at an early stage. Often pieces were too long for beginners to cope with, while older students found that the method book for younger students moved too slowly. In general, students didn't always enjoy the pieces. As a teacher I worked around these issues, but it wasn't ideal.

That's Flute aims to solve these issues. The book starts with single note pieces. As each new note is introduced, That's Flute has plenty of pieces to work through meaning that slower learners have enough pieces to practise before moving onto harder notes. Rhythms and notes are added in a slow, logical order. That's Flute concentrates on the easier rhythms needed for grade 1 pieces and sight-reading in order that students get a good grounding in the basics rather than being confused by harder concepts too early on.

That's Flute contains a variety of popular traditional tunes that your students will recognise. There are also plenty of new pieces that are catchy and fun. Differentiated duets appear throughout the book. The second half of the book includes some longer grade 1 standard "concert" pieces, grade 1 scales and rhythmic sight-reading exercises. These are designed to help students fully prepare for grade 1 and beyond!

ABOUT THAT'S CLARINET

Coming soon...

After the success of That's Flute, comes That's Clarinet.

That's Clarinet starts with single note pieces. As each new note is introduced, That's Clarinet has plenty of pieces to work through, meaning that slower learners have enough pieces to practise before moving onto harder notes.

Aimed at primary learners (who often have difficulty stretching to lower notes), That's Clarinet uses left-hand only pieces right up to Bb in the middle of the stave. That's Clarinet has been written to include a particularly large amount of pieces that do not go below low G, so that pupils with a smaller reach have enough pieces to play at a comfortable range and don't get discouraged by note being able to reach low F and E. Low F and E are covered at the end of the book. That's Clarinet concentrates on the easier rhythms needed for grade 1 pieces and sight-reading in order that students get a good grounding in the basics, rather than being confused by harder concepts too early on.

Differentiated duets appear throughout the book. The second half of the book includes some longer grade 1 standard "concert" pieces, grade 1 scales, rhythmic and sight-reading exercises as well as fingering and note reading charts.
